Uganda

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi, chimpanzees in Kibale, and the Nile at Murchison Falls.

Uganda is a short flight from Nairobi and is where most of our travellers go for mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. It is also the easiest of the three to combine with a Kenyan safari.

Where people usually go

  • Bwindi Impenetrable Forest — mountain gorilla trekking, with permits booked well in advance.
  • Kibale Forest — chimpanzee tracking, usually paired with Queen Elizabeth National Park.
  • Queen Elizabeth National Park — the Kazinga Channel boat trip and the tree-climbing lions of Ishasha.
  • Murchison Falls — the Nile forced through a narrow gorge, with game drives on the northern bank.

Gorilla permits

Gorilla trekking permits are issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority in limited numbers for each day and must be bought in advance. We will tell you the current permit price and what is available for your dates before you commit to anything, and the permit cost is shown as a separate line on your quotation.

Before you book

Visa and entry requirements for Uganda are decided by the Ugandan authorities. We will tell you what is normally required and point you to the official source — please confirm with them before you book your travel arrangements.
